UN extends mandate of Libya intervention

The UN Security Council has extended the mandate of the UN Monitoring Group to the UNSMIL crisis for one year to help end a war that is threatening all parts of the country.
The committee expressed its concern over the attacks by rebels loyal to General Khalifa Haftar against the city of Trabulus.
The DD Council reiterated the previous call for all parties to continue to respect the ceasefire agreement, and expanded UNSMIL's activities to help achieve this goal.
The UN ambassador in Libya, Ghassan Salame, has warned that the country could become a full-fledged war-torn country that could lead to a two-part war.
He also said some foreigners are exacerbating the crisis because of their supply of arms - contrary to UN sanctions.

The rebel leader, General Haftar, receives support from France, the United States and Russia.
The initiative wants countries to stay away from the country's crisis.
